Nitin Singh

We are delighted to celebrate Nitin Singh as he embarks on a new journey! Nitin is headed to Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences starting in Fall 2024.

Nitin has been an invaluable member of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Waterloo for the past four years, working as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Global Water Futures, Lake Futures Program under the supervision of Water Institute member Nandita Basu.

Nitin Singh, Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Nitin's research focuses on understanding how climate change and human activities affect streamflows and nutrient transport from local waterways to continental scales. At Waterloo, he conducted extensive analyses of streamflow data, demonstrating how human factors amplify the effects of climate change on seasonal water availability in North American managed watersheds.

His recent study on changes in bioavailable phosphorus concentrations in a few hundred watersheds of the Great Lakes has revealed how agricultural practices and winter temperatures can contribute to a widespread increase in bioavailable phosphorus across the transboundary basin. He is currently using a process-based model in collaboration with Chris Wellen (TMU) to unravel the impact of winter temperatures on bioavailable phosphorus in agricultural watersheds of the Great Lakes.

Congratulations, Nitin! We wish you a smooth transition and continued success in your water research career in the United States.
