The Water Institute is a proud participant in the University of Waterloo Green Office Initiative and has recently achieved Gold Certification.
The Green Office program challenges staff and faculty to make a tangible environmental impact on campus and in the home by implementing sustainable behaviors and practices. It recognizes departments for their achievements through a common scorecard, while allowing for new ideas, collaboration, and change.
Offices become certified by filling out a "Green Scorecard," where they are awarded points for various sustainable actions. Gold certification reflects achieving 75% of the total possible points on the scorecard. As of August 2023, the Water Institute received 136 points out of a possible 171. This represents a jump from the silver certification that the Water Institute received in previous years.
The team at the Water Institute is committed to making a positive impact on campus sustainability and has incorporated many sustainable actions into their personal lives. The team hopes to achieve Platinum certification next year, representing our ongoing commitment to improve our ecological footprint and social and economic impact.
