"Useridless Login"
Bruce described useridless login (needs new name). It is already doable, though it is still being refined. We talked about the implications, such as the loss of some old Watstar features. Some existing concepts (like expiry dates) need to be dealt with as the system evolves. Bruce would like to have this new strategy in place by January 1, 2000.
Update of cafe1 labs in village residences
The residence Polaris lab now has full Netbios access to the campus. Cafe1 was switched to a new unrestricted Vlan.
Resnet does not yet have access to faculty fileservers, faculties must ask IST to enable specific addresses.

Q. D:\reginst.dat is not being added to the registry
A. Its a user.dat problem confirm it loads .default and user in winlogon.
Q. Polaris is not responding. Still a problem
A. Possibly no appfiler set, Wins not correct
Q. What is the replacement for the STAR= variable?
A. Use run once instead of start environment variable
Q. Can we get an updated list of guiboot hooks that are supported and will be supported?
A. Check the web page for guiboot hooks
Q. How do you I clean out an account with GUI boot?
A. Cleaning an account means seeing a consultant or eventually a web page
Q. There is a need for a new dept command or it's equivalent. Any ideas on how to go about it?
A. This is an issue that needs to be addressed.
Q. Update on if scratch is fixed?
A. Scratch is fixed.
Q. Carl had problems with the license server. What went wrong?
A. May have been caused by local problem.
Q. Carl removed license requirements for Fine arts software on artsapp1 and it now works though it is unknown on the others. Can something be implemented to completely refresh the appfilers (ie remove an entire directory and recreate it from engshare)
A. Bruce is going to help Erick with identing (adding/updating/deleting) files on appfilers
Q. Has there been any new info on the new Dlink 530 card problems with newer mother boards
A. No new info from Martin or Ray.
