Recommend that for September 2007 the "old Horde" is to be removed from NexusMail.
Meeting discussions
Password page revision
Lowell to create mockup of new password change page for viewing.
Paul McKone modified the PHP code to be modular. This should be relatively easy to do - a short form with a button to a long form.
Over quota and grace period
The Nexus mail service which currently has the "old" and "new" Horde mail shows two differing views when a user is over quota and the grace period has expired. The New Horde shows nothing at all. The Old Horde shows all of the mail, but the user cannot do anything (like deleting mail). Question raised: Why is the old one still functioning? Should we have just one version? Note: Initially in service for testing, i.e. File Manager which opened with IMAP and trolling through all the user's directories. The testing phase determined the defaults to turn off.
Weak passwords
Lately, an outbreak of the Nigerian email scam set up spamming relay through UW due to weak user passwords. The user was informed and "John the Ripper" program was run on the faculty server to check for weak passwords. Some 60 users were emailed to change their weak password.
Acctman will generate a cryptic password with the /newpass option.
i.e. modify steph /newpass
New password for steph is CJTPwX9
Software upgrades for the Fall term
Nexus Common Apps changed in Engineering. Something will be done on the return from holidays. The MSI for Active Perl installs to the root of the drive. This is how the commercial MSI installs and was not repackaged with WinstallLE.
Servers
As disk space for images and software packages increases the 300GB server disks may require another share point for the data.
Windows Server 2003 is only available in 64 Bit. New servers for nexus would have to be bought to replace the current Windows Server 2003 systems. This will be done probably sooner rather than later due to Vista clients. Vista to be coming into the domain, but requires "LongHorn" aka Server 2008. The earliest we could expect to see this would be the summer of 2008.
Next meeting scheduled for September 19, 2007.
