Meeting discussions

Audit

All of Engineering will be running client initiated Audit script via a logon script. Please take a look at it, Daniel would like to implement it across all faculties.

UCIST

Bernie gave a synopsis of WNAG activity over the past term. The item was finished quickly with only one comment about IST should be involved in the BES testing that is happening with Nexus (for IQC primarily).

MS Office 2007

Arts is already moving to MS Office 2007, they will start pushing it out in two weeks and should be finished moving staff and the faculty over by the end of July. One complication is that the AV podium machines will not be converted until between terms so users will need to save in a previous version or rely on the conversion utility until next term.

Adobe Pro 7 does not work with MS Office 2007 and should be upgraded. As an limited alternative the MS PDF writer portion of the MS Office 2007 suite is available.

Scanner problems with certain HP scanners have come up in testing. It appears that a re-installation of MS Office 2007 fixes most problems.

Software upgrades for the Fall term

Maple, Mathcad, possibly Matlab, Nexus Common Apps, MS Visual Studio 2005 and license upgrades for SAS (June 30 actually) and SPSS.

Summer activities

Dealing with Vista problems mostly. Longhorn (MS Server 2008) is only available in a 64bit distribution so all the Domain Controllers will need to get upgraded. The Vista activation scripts are available for Windows 2003 and have been installed on Clipper until Longhorn and it's GUI applications for licensing are available. There are issues with both the NetApps, and Samba shares and talking with Vista, time and upgrades will likely solve most problems but cause work for updating the shares.

Next meeting scheduled for July 18, 2007

The meeting may be cancelled due to the number of members on vacation, email will keep everyone apprised of the status.
