SRF Extracts stopped working

The source file changed locations so the copy failed. Fixed - Feb 22, 2008.

Vista updates

  • MS Office 2007 and Vista together has caused some user confusion.
  • What appears to be DNS problems can be solved by using IP or fully qualifying the name when mapping disk shares.

Long logins in Psychology

An intermittent problem that is hard to duplicate, debug and solve. The usual debugging steps to try to isolate it to a user or computer has not worked. Various suggestions were offered by all, including cabling problems, driver problems, dhcp/dns issues, reinstalling the os, removing roaming profiles etc. Unfortunately for Nevil there are increased frequencies when this occurs and it has increased again just before evaluations.

I'm a Mac/I'm a PC - security issues...

Windows 2003 R2 and Vista are getting even more restrictive with security so that even the administrator cannot run applications without "unblocking" an executable (right click).

WSUS

IST has enabling "Optional updates" to be automatically upgraded for the clients through WSUS. This in response to changes between WSUS2 and WSUS3 and the automatic detection process.

Client number in registry is causing difficulty for some clients to get upgraded via WSUS. The registry key has always been dynamically created the first time the client attaches to WSUS. This no longer works as expected so all images IST (Peter Schepers) creates must manually remove the key since sysprep does not remove the key. With multiple clients all claiming to be the same client, the last one in is the only one receiving updates.

Emerge

Meetings are continuing, and the server is being moved to IST running under Linux. The project should be finished in April.

Next meeting scheduled for March 19, 2008.
