Meeting discussions

SPSS licensing delays/problems

There is always problems with licenses and version each year, nothing unusual however there was a period of weeks in which the software did not work.

Corel WP being removed from Arts public labs

Deployment of MS Office 2007

No major problems reported, unfortunately it appears that Administrative privileges are needed the first time Office is started otherwise the installation does not complete. This is an annoyance, hopefully it will be fixed by Microsoft.

X-Windows issues

Xming is being used instead of Cygwin-X11 in multiple places across campus. Xming has 3D support available and does not require the cygwin runtime dependency.

Exchange update

Dell consulting group is now involved with the Exchange project.

UCIST presentation

Userid name matching issue brought up again.

Microsoft Windows server 2008

Aero has been incorporated into the server so it appears to be buggy and a resource hog. MS has plans to provide a windowless system ETA?

Eric's vista audit

There are 51 deployments of vista on nexus. 1 OU=Environmental Studies, 6 OU=Science, 33 OU=AHS, 11 OU=Engineering, only 3 in Engineering appear to be users workstations, so AHS has certainly taken the lead on Vista.

Toshiba laptop driver problems

Some Toshiba models no longer have XP drivers available.

Sysctl moved

Sysctl and audit have moved to a new server (ecserv8). https://audit.uwaterloo.ca and http://ecserv8.uwaterloo.ca/sysctl/sysctl_nexus.html

SAV new version

Corporate addition 10.1.6.6x and 10.1.7 on nexustest.

Next meeting scheduled for February 20, 2008.
