Green computing (Emily Kunz Purser ENV)

  • Emily's coop work term involved measuring computing devices in all ENV offices and labs using a kilowatt counter.

Arts domain issue (Nevil)

  • prompted by approaching end-of-warranty Artsfaculty domain servers Arts is investigating what to do with their managed staff and faculty and solicited WNAG as to how other groups manage this audience
  • solutions ranged from completely user-managed (Science), to partially managed in Nexus for authentication purposes (AHS), to fully managed Nexus workstations for staff/faculty in Engineering and to fully managed staff in ADS for academic support personnel
  • Arts' three options are to maintain Artsfaculty, migrate workstations into ADS or move them into Nexus

Engineering computing update

  • Seagate 7200.11 1TB drives have a firmware problem that requires a fix
  • updates to Nexus Common Applications and SPSS for spring term being packaged

CS update

  • CSapp1 and domain controllers are close to out of warranty and are being migrated to virtual environment

Environment update

  • getting ready for next term
  • there is going to be construction in E2 shortly for 1.5 years

AHS update

  • rebuilding labs very soon before summer terms begins but waiting for software updates (Nexus Common Apps)
