Unmanageable computers – Tim Farrell
Tim has encountered several machines in Nexus and ADS that cannot be managed or connected to using the Symantec Console or mapping a network drive. The machines are pingable and can be connected with RDP.
Possible solutions include checking DNS and audit to see if it is a common hardware set for the problem machines.
Report to UCIST in November was done by Bernie.
Science slow logons were solved and attributed to an NFS mount to their network appliance and Outlook search putting heavy loads on their network appliance. The mount has been removed and the search service disabled in Science.
AHS – Lowell has had problems with three packages not installing because the source files can not be found by machines, while other packages on the same application filer work. Solutions suggested were to make sure domain computers and the local system have the credentials to access the source files.
AHS
May be putting in a Windows 7 lab in the summer term.
ENV
Bernie has been working on setting up a Windows 7 Deployment Server.
A windows 7 lab is expected to be setup in the Fall 2010 term.
Arts
Long logons attributed to “Applying Computer settings” have reoccurred on 3 Nexus podium machines. A permanent solution has not been found. Rebooting in the past has solved it most of the time. It appears to happen to only some machines and is not consistent.
Arts is implementing a Windows 7 lab on Nexus this Winter term. Testing is under way to determine what software works, what doesn’t.
ENG
Ecfile1 needs an upgrade. It is running low on space. (Ray)
Hon has documented Windows PE and Windows 7 imaging methods and posted images.
Documentation was sent by email.
Erick mentioned that Domain Consolidation reports were submitted by many and he and Bruce will be reviewing them before producing a preliminary report.
Erick has said that discussions are underway at CTSC for licensing of Windows products.
