Work-Learn Insight - March 2021

Welcome to the March Work-Learn Insight Newsletter. This winter has marked the first anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic that shifted our thinking about the workplace of the future as we grappled with the challenges of remote work and even remote talent management.

The fall 2020 issue of Waterloo Magazine is available online with a special feature on the leadership of Work-Learn Institute director Judene Pretti, finding purpose in work and our Future Ready Talent Framework (FRTF). Read the full feature and visit the FRTF website to learn more about the key competencies to help navigate the future of work and and learning.

Our latest publication on remote work-integrated learning experiences from the student perspective is highlighted in Waterloo Stories. Conducted by Work-Learn Institute's team of researchers Judene Pretti, Brittany Etmanski and Amie Durston, the study identifies three important factors that affect a student's remote work experience: socialization, productivity and meaningful work.

Work-Learn Institute director Judene Pretti will be introducing the Future Ready Talent Framework at the upcoming Developing Future Ready Students learning series presented by InnovatED. The series brings together a group of educational thought leaders from across Ontario to highlight innovative approaches to teaching and learning that prepare students to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

In the latest special double issue of International Journal of Work-Integrated Learning (IJWIL), the featured papers focus on the exploration of work-integrated learning (WIL) and its challenges in a COVID-19 world. Find publications from the Work-Learn Institute team or visit IJWIL to access a range of research articles from WIL practitioners and colleagues from around the world.
