Specializations

Some people want to find the risk no one else saw.

Some want to decide where millions should be invested.

Others want to figure out why a business isn't performing, solve a tax problem with no easy answer or turn complex financial information into a decision.

That's what a specialization is for.

At SAF, you build the foundation first. The Value Suite teaches you to see problems differently and understand where value is created. The Tech Stack gives you the tools to work with data, AI and emerging technologies. Your specialization is where you deepen your knowledge and develop a distinct area of strength.

These aren't just areas of study. They're areas where organizations need deeper expertise and where demand for specialized skills continues to grow. That means you’re not just learning a field. You’re building the expertise to tackle the problems that define it.

Accounting specializations:

Assurance and Advisory Specialization

How do you trust that a company's data is accurate? That its systems are working? That its controls are actually protecting the business? Important decisions depend on information people can trust.

In the Assurance and Advisory Specialization, you'll investigate those questions. You'll work with financial information, data, technology and business processes to identify risks, test what can be trusted and uncover problems before people rely on inaccurate information.

AI and other technologies can help you investigate faster and design smarter ways to test information. You'll also go beyond spotting problems to understand their causes, evaluate their impact and recommend what should happen next.

The result is a skill set that combines investigation, analysis and professional judgement to help build stakeholder confidence (e.g., managers, investors, the public) in organizations’ information, systems and controls.

Careers can take you into external audit, internal audit, risk advisory and other assurance and advisory roles across business, government and the public sector.

Business Leadership Specialization

A great strategy means little if people can't execute it. The Business Leadership Specialization explores why some people, teams and organizations perform better than others, and what leaders can do about it.

You'll learn how to motivate people, build effective teams, manage change, use data to make better decisions and design systems that improve performance. You’ll then apply these ideas to real business challenges, learning how to turn strategy into action.

You'll learn to connect people, strategy and data to improve performance, rather than studying them in isolation, helping organizations turn plans into measurable results.

Careers can take you into management consulting, strategy, finance, performance management, people analytics, internal audit and leadership roles across business, government and the not-for-profit sector.

Corporate Reporting Specialization

Every major business decision starts with a number. The challenge is deciding what that number should be.

In the Corporate Reporting Specialization, you'll learn how to determine how complex business transactions should be reflected in financial statements and what happens when the answer isn't obvious. You'll tackle situations where the rules don't provide a perfect answer and learn how to build, support and defend reporting decisions that others can trust.

You'll develop the analytical and critical thinking skills needed to assess financial information, evaluate alternative approaches and understand the implications of reporting choices. Along the way, you'll explore topics such as financial statement analysis, digital assets, sustainability reporting and emerging business models. You'll also learn how AI and analytics can help you work with more information while reinforcing, not replacing, the judgment behind the decision.

The result is a skill set that goes beyond applying accounting standards. You become someone who can navigate situations where the answer isn't clear, exercise professional judgment and help produce information that investors, lenders, executives and other decision-makers can trust.

Careers can take you into financial reporting, technical accounting, financial analysis, advisory, consulting and corporate finance.

Taxation Specialization

Taxes can change the outcome of a business deal, investment, expansion or major financial decision. The challenge is knowing what those consequences will be before the decision is made.

The Taxation Specialization puts you inside those decisions. You'll work with complex tax rules and real-world scenarios to understand how different choices can affect what a person or organization ultimately pays, keeps or invests. You'll build the technical tax knowledge, analytical skills, strategic thinking and technology-enabled capabilities needed to evaluate options, plan ahead and make sound decisions in an increasingly complex and connected world.

The result is a skill set that goes well beyond compliance. You become someone who can help individuals and organizations navigate uncertainty, identify opportunities and bring tax thinking into the decisions that shape financial and business outcomes.

Careers can take you into public accounting, private industry, government, financial planning and specialized tax advisory roles.

Finance specializations:

Corporate Finance Specialization

Should a company launch a new product? Acquire a competitor?  Develop a social agenda? Should it issue debt?  Equity?  When should it repurchase its own shares?  How should you even value a company in the first place?

Corporate finance sits behind these questions.

You'll learn how businesses evaluate opportunities, decide where to put their money and determine how to finance their plans in ways that create value. You’ll also learn how financial markets and investment bankers assess companies and their management, how they decide whether to provide capital, and at what cost.

You'll build financial models, analyze companies and investment opportunities, assess risk and weigh competing options. But the goal isn't simply to get the right number. It's to use the numbers to answer the bigger question: What should the business do next?

Careers can take you into corporate finance, financial planning and analysis, treasury, corporate development, investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, financial advisory and consulting.

Public Equity and Wealth Management Specialization

Every day, investors are surrounded by headlines, earnings reports, market movements and opinions. The challenge isn't finding information. It's knowing what to do with it.

Public markets are where much of society’s savings are invested and where trillions of dollars of capital are allocated across the economy.

In the Public Equity and Wealth Management Specialization, you'll learn how to investigate companies, understand markets, determine what investments are worth and build portfolios around real financial goals.

You'll learn to weigh opportunity against risk, look beyond short-term market reactions and make investment decisions that stand up over time. You'll also explore how technology and data are changing the way investors work and how financial professionals help individuals and organizations make informed investment decisions.

Careers can take you into asset management, equity research, portfolio management, wealth management, investment advisory and capital markets.

Venture Capital and Private Equity Specialization

Venture capital and private equity are about finding early-stage businesses with potential and deciding whether they're worth backing.

You'll learn how investors evaluate companies that don’t trade in public markets, figure out what they're worth, assess risk and decide how much to invest. But the numbers are only part of the story. You'll also need to understand the product market, the business model, the people behind the company and what could make a business succeed or fail.

Once an investment is made, the work doesn't stop. Investors often work alongside the companies they back, helping them grow, improve performance and create value. This specialization gives you a view of both sides of that process, from evaluating investment opportunities, including deal structuring and execution, to understanding how investors help companies succeed after the deal is done.

Careers can take you into venture capital, private equity, growth equity, investment banking, corporate development, entrepreneurial finance and other private-market investing roles.
