When the Centre for Career Development (CCD) set out to reimagine CareerHub, their goal was clear: to make it easier than ever for students, alumni and staff to access the career resources they need to succeed.

The revamped platform reflects a deep understanding of the diverse career paths and challenges faced by the University of Waterloo community, offering a centralized, user-friendly space designed to inspire confidence and growth.

“Career development is not one-size-fits-all,” says Kristen Eppel (she/her), strategic initiatives manager, CCD. “The new CareerHub represents a significant leap forward in how we support our students and alumni in navigating their career journeys.”

CareerHub is a centralized digital space that offers career-related resources, tools and information tailored to support individuals at every stage of their career journey. From first-year students exploring potential career paths to graduates refining their career skills, CareerHub provides a single point of access to guidance, strategies and tools.

A fresh approach to career development

The redesigned CareerHub emphasizes usability and accessibility, ensuring that all users can easily find the resources they need. The platform is structured around key career development themes:

  • Career planning: Consider what purposeful work means to you, dispel career myths and examine SMART goals.
  • Applying: Access résumé and cover letter templates, tips and examples to craft professional application materials.
  • Interviewing: Learn how to present yourself confidently through tailored advice and practice tools.
  • Succeeding at work: Discover strategies for workplace success, navigating workplace culture and your rights at work.
  • Further education: Explore resources for professional schools.
  • Career and identity: Explore career support resources that are unique to different identities.

By organizing content around these core areas, CareerHub addresses immediate career needs and supports long-term professional growth.

Designed for accessibility and growth

The new CareerHub is hosted on Confluence, an accessible platform that ensures resources are easily searchable, updated and accessible across devices. The flexibility of the Confluence platform also allows the CCD team to respond to evolving student needs, continuously evolving the career materials.

By moving the content to Confluence, CareerHub now reflects the accessibility that the Centre for Career Development strives to deliver. The ability to update and streamline content to be more relevant in today’s world of work and better align with current trends in career education. With this format, our team can better serve learners by continuously reviewing and updating content through a person-centred and trauma-informed lens. It also provides the opportunity to make updates that align with our commitment to Equity, Diversity, inclusion and anti-Racism (EDI-R).

By consolidating our resources on an intuitive and accessible platform, we empower our community to take charge of their professional development confidently and easily. This launch underscores our commitment to providing innovative, high-quality career support tailored to the diverse needs of the University of Waterloo community.

CareerHub is open to all University of Waterloo students, alumni and staff, reflecting the Centre for Career Development’s dedication to fostering lifelong career success. Whether users are preparing for a co-op work term, making a career pivot or seeking advice on professional growth, they can find tailored resources within CareerHub.

"The CareerHub redesign was a large undertaking by many people within and outside of CEE," said Eppel. "This work would not have been possible without their consultations, contributions and expertise."
