Southern Panicled Aster
Symphyotrichum lanceolatum (Willdenow) G. L. Nesom var.latifolium (Semple & Chmielewski) G. L. Nesom occurs in full sun to partial shade in thickets, edges of wet deciduous woods, margins of streams, and ditches in Canada and the US (Brouillet et al. 2006; FNA). Leaf blades are broadly oblanceolate (not much reduced in inflorescences) and the margins are usually serrate. It is the more southern race of Sy. lanceolatum. The variety is hexaploid 2n=64.
