Scale-leaf Aster

Symphyotrichum adnatum (Nutt.) Nesom is native to sandy, clayey soils, sandhills, oak-pine scrub, open pine flatwoods, roadsides from southern Mississippi and eastern Louisiana to southwestern Georgia to southern Florida (Brouillet et al. 2006 FNA).  The species is distinguished by its sprawling wiry stems with small leaves that are basally fused to the stem.  The species is tetraploid with x=5 (2n=20).
