Conrad Grebel University College is excited to be launching its new PeaceTech Living Learning Community in the Fall of 2019. Open to Grebel students in any academic program and in any year of their undergraduate degree, this community will explore the intersection of peacebuilding and technology—critically reflecting on the social impact of technology, and fostering the creation of “tech for good.”
This week the first cohort of Peer Leaders were announced. These upper year students are well-placed to develop, launch, and continue to adapt the program over the coming academic year:
- Hannah Bernstein (Nanotechnology Engineering) – Fall 2019
- Neil Brubacher (Systems Design Engineering) – Spring 2019 & Winter 2020
- Hannah Brubacher Kaethler (Knowledge Integration) – Winter 2020
- Jonathan Smith (Computer Science & Business Administration) – Spring 2019
- Grace Wright (Political Science & Business) – Fall 2019
In addition to cultivating a new community-within-a-community among fellow resident and associate students at Grebel, the PeaceTech Peer Leaders will be joining the community of Centre for Peace Advancement participants. Director Paul Heidebrecht is eager to begin working with them: “We can’t wait to see all the ways they connect to the peace entrepreneurs, activists, and researchers who call our centre home, and help us elevate peace as a priority at the University of Waterloo and throughout our region’s vibrant innovation ecosystem!”
