When organizations experience stress or tough questions, many engage in an assessment to better understand the concerns in the group and to design appropriate intervention to support organizational change. Introduction to Workplace Assessments explores the diversity of dynamics that causes workplaces (and other groups) to seek out an assessment and considers multiple strategies consultants can use to effectively hear the perspectives of those experiencing challenges. The workshop gives special consideration to how size, organizational culture, and the nature of the concerns within the group impact consultants’ choices regarding how to structure and engage the assessment process, ensuring that parties feel heard and strengthening the ability of consultants to develop appropriate intervention recommendations. This workshop is designed to take place in concert with Part II: Writing Workplace Assessment Reports.

Writing workplace assessment reports is a unique challenge - it invites facilitators to put their assessment into words that are unbiased while sharing people’s truth, hopeful while realistic, and clear while not too intense — all while, throughout the document, communicating care for the parties involved throughout the document. Given that words have weight and impact, knowing how to write assessment reports well is a critical skill. This workshop considers the purpose of report writing and the challenges consultants encounter while proposing tools and strategies for mastering this important craft.
This workshop is for mediators and facilitators and ideal for those who have completed Introduction to Workplace Assessment, Transforming Group Dynamics, Art of Mindful Mediation and Dispute Resolution, though all are welcome.
