Dr. Barbara Landau, PhD, LLB., LLM., CMed, President of Cooperative Solutions, is a psychologist, lawyer, and an accredited family mediator - Family Mediation Canada (FMC), as well as a certified comprehensive family mediator from Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Institute, and trainer. She also participates as a trainer at the family information sessions through the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto. She is a former president of the Ontario Association for Family Mediation, former vice-president of the ADR Institute, and former executive member of the Ontario Bar Association (OBA)-ADR Section. Barbara received the "Award for Excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution" from the OBA's ADR Section in 2001, the John Haynes Distinguished Mediator Award from the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) in 2003, and the Long Term Achievement Award (FAMMA) from Family Mediation Canada in 2004.
Barbara has written numerous articles on mediation and collaborative law published in Mediation News, The Lawyers Weekly, OBA's Matrimonial Affairs, Interaction, The Ontario Psychologist, and co-authored two books: The Family Mediation & Collaborative Practice Handbook, 4th edition (2005) co-authored with Lorne Wolfson and Niki Landau, and From Conflict to Creativity (2001) co-authored with Sy and Daryl Landau.
In 1999, Barbara participated in a "citizen diplomacy" mission to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza to compassionately listen to Israelis and Palestinians as a step toward peace and reconciliation. As the co-chair of the Canadian Association of Jews and Muslims, she co-leads Dialogue Groups to build understanding and respect between Jews, Muslims and Palestinians living in Toronto.
Dr. Landau and her family created a scholarship fund in honour of Barbara's late husband Sy Landau, which is available to those enfolled in the Conflict Management and Mediation Certificate Program, and for which we are very grateful.
