Count data, which consists of non-negative integers, is commonly collected and analyzed in fields like epidemiology, genomics, and clinical research. This workshop will introduce you to Poisson regression, a powerful tool for modelling count data over time.
What you'll learn:
- Fundamentals of the Poisson regression model and its assumptions
- How to interpret coefficients and conduct significance testing
- Exploring interactions between variables and using dummy variables
- Model-checking techniques, including residual plots and goodness-of-fit tests
- Methods for model selection
- Advanced topics like zero-inflated Poisson models (time permitting)
Hands-on experience: We'll demonstrate the analysis using R. Participants with basic programming knowledge are encouraged to bring a laptop for hands-on practice. No prior experience? No problem! You'll still gain a solid understanding of the concepts.
This in-person workshop will be held at DC 1568 (inside the DC library). Registration is free.
