As the 60th anniversary beckons, a word about events

2017 marks a significant year of pride and celebration at the University of Waterloo. Students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, donors, and community all play a role in joining in the year’s activities.

While there are a number of “marquee” events led on behalf of the President during 2017, including the January 9 Beyond 60 kickoff lecture, all campus partners are invited to consider hosting celebrations of their own to mark the institution's anniversary.

Members of the University community are encouraged to get creative with their activities and events during the 2017 year and put a 60th anniversary spin on things wherever possible.

According to a handy checklist produced by Community Relations and Events, a 60th Anniversary event should:

  • Align with University of Waterloo’s brand and values;
  • Speak to areas of institutional strength or pride;
  • Build pride in and awareness of Waterloo’s history;
  • Create excitement/ engagement for Waterloo’s future; and
  • Inspire pride in accomplishments of members of the University community.

So, what does a 60th Anniversary event look like?

It will use the 60th anniversary logo, as outlined in the logo guidelines, on items such as:

  • the invitation;
  • registration;
  • décor;
  • banners; and
  • slides.

The program or proceedings would include speeches and materials that are embedded with 60th key messages, such as:

  • videos;
  • senior leadership participation; and
  • engagement opportunities (soliciting memories; predictions for the future).

The Innovation 60 website contains numerous resources for event planners. Registering the event online is a great way of making sure that University Relations and the 60th Anniversary committee can help promote the event across campus.
