An office environment taken from outside the building

The Master of Taxation (MTax) program is an innovative graduate program, that reaches across the learning spectrum connecting skills and knowledge from each course, the program as a whole, and work-related activities. It is designed using an exclusive learning model to foster the development of unique strengths and qualities that distinctly position our graduates as valued professionals in the Canadian tax community.

This ground-breaking program is offered through the University of Waterloo with two study options: full-time studies take place in downtown Toronto, while part-time students learn in our real-time virtual learning space. Graduates attain broad-based competencies in tax subject areas that include policy, research, statutory interpretation, estate planning, business structuring, and risk management. Technical strength is integrated with professional skills including communication, research and interpretation, professionalism, continuous learning, and synthesizing relationship and business issues.

Our students include university graduates from Canadian business programs interested in pursuing a career in tax, as well as individuals from the tax and professional community including chartered professional accountants, certified financial planners and other professionals. Some already have a tax background but wish to solidify or expand their expertise; others are looking to shift their career. Offered on a full time and part-time basis, the program is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of a diverse group of constituents.

I entered the MTax program as a part-time student knowing many of the previous graduates that had benefited greatly from the program in the past. I wanted to experience these benefits for myself and as I look back, the program greatly exceeded all my expectations. Deciding to attend the MTax program was one of the best decisions of my career to date.
