arif amjad

Arif Amjad is a Tax Partner at SRJ Chartered Professional Accountants, where he focuses on transforming the financial operations of small and medium‑sized businesses through innovative, cloud‑based solutions. He specializes in Canadian taxation for small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) and e‑commerce enterprises, delivering practical strategies for growth, compliance, and tax optimization. 

Arif holds a Master of Taxation from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, a combination that has supported his deep technical expertise. His career includes roles at Deloitte and BDO Canada, as well as academic contributions as a sessional lecturer at Wilfrid Laurier University and Brock University. He is passionate about helping businesses build efficient, strategic, and technology‑enabled tax practices.

Bonnie Long is a Vice President, Tax at Morguard Corporation, and describes her time in the Master of Taxation program as “both intellectually rewarding and professionally transformative.” During her studies, she developed a rigorous foundation in Canadian tax law, policy, and practice, strengthened by case‑based learning and exposure to real‑world tax challenges. She credits the program with sharpening her analytical skills and enhancing her understanding of how taxation influences business decisions. Bonnie especially valued the faculty’s expertise and the program’s strong ties to the tax and accounting community, noting that the experience “strengthened my technical capabilities, sharpened my professional judgment, and reinforced my passion for the tax field.”

Justin Wong is a Tax Manager at Deloitte Canada, and has completed the Master of Taxation program part‑time while working full‑time, an experience that he says “strengthened my technical foundation and refined how I approach complex tax issues in practical, commercial contexts.” He highlights the dynamic nature of tax and the importance of strong research skills, thoughtful legal interpretation, and sound judgment — all skills the program fostered. Equally meaningful for Justin were the relationships built within his cohort, which he describes as “accomplished peers” whose perspectives enriched the overall experience. He continues to draw on the depth, discipline, and leadership mindset cultivated during his time in the program.

For Yahui Zhu is a Senior Manager, Transaction Tax at EY Canada, and entering the MTax program was originally about transitioning from accounting into tax — but it grew into much more. He reflects that the program not only deepened his understanding of the Canadian tax system, but also taught him “how to learn independently, rigorously, and with discipline.” Yahui credits the experience with shaping his work ethic and approach to thoughtful, structured thinking. “The self‑directed learning mindset and work ethic have shaped many areas of my life,” he shares, noting that the program was transformative both professionally and personally.
