Alumni Awards
Weng received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) and his master’s degree in Accounting (MAcc) at the University of Waterloo. He went on to work at KPMG for several years and moved on to Uber Eats during its infancy. Weng knew he wanted to be an entrepreneur, so he obtained an MBA at INSEAD business school which eventually led him to dream up the idea for SPATULA, a flash-frozen, high-quality meal kit that only requires a pan and a — you guessed it — spatula.
Jeannine LiChong (MAcc ‘92) is one of the top finance professionals in Canada, with experience managing portfolios worth $2.6 billion. She is the executive vice president and portfolio manager at Waratah Capital Advisors, a member of the School of Accounting and Finance’s (SAF) Director’s Advisory Council and a member of the Women in Finance Advisory Board. LiChong is also the chair of the Toronto Symphony Foundation and is a past board member of the Royal Conservatory of Music. She earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Accounting (MAcc) degree from the University of Waterloo and holds CPA, CA and CFA designations.
The SAF Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award (formerly the SAF Alumni Achievement Award) is awarded to an alumnus who has achieved a notable level of success and participated in activities that inspire peers, other University of Waterloo alumni, and students. Congratulations to the 2023 Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award recipient, Jeannine LiChong (MAcc '92), and to all past recipients of the award.
The SAF Leader to Watch Award (formerly the SAF Young Alumni Award) was established to provide tangible recognition of alumni that have graduated recently, who have distinguished themselves through their professional achievements, and community service. Congratulations to the 2023 Young Alumni Award recipient, Ian Weng (MAcc '13), and to all past recipients of the award.
