Co-op & Careers
Students are available for two four‑month work terms: January to April and September to December. Many seek experience across different areas of tax during these terms, depending on employer needs.
Before their first work term, students complete core studies in corporate taxation, business structuring, tax research and statutory interpretation, and accounting for income taxes. After their first term, they continue with advanced topics including international tax, tax risk management, and tax planning.
Students are prepared to contribute to:
- Tax compliance
- Tax research and special projects
- Supporting interactions with Canada Revenue Agency audit functions/interactions.
All students enter the program with a business or related degree and may have a professional CA, CMA, CGA or CPA designation; some also hold law degrees, and many have prior work experience. The program focuses primarily on Canadian income taxation, with exposure to GST, and emphasizes strong analytical skills through interpreting tax legislation.
Compensation is negotiated between employers and students, and many employers also contribute toward students’ tuition.
