CIF Field House officially opens September 17

Exterior shot of the new Columbia Icefield Field House

President and Vice-Chancellor Feridun Hamdullahpur and the Department of Athletics and Recreation are excited to announce the grand opening of the long-awaited Columbia Icefield Field House (CIF Field House).

On Tuesday, September 17, the $16.5 million project will be officially unveiled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event will engage students and the greater Waterloo Region community in an activity-focused and celebratory-style program with an anticipated 150 campus contacts and approximately 100 elementary school students in attendance. A formal presentation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Following the event, guests are invited to attend the President’s Welcome Barbecue.

Constructed just north of Warrior Field, the 65,000 square foot Field House will connect the west side of the existing Columbia Icefield (CIF) building and feature a multi-activity turf space. While students will primarily benefit from this new addition, the Field House will also be available for community bookings and other external uses such as Warriors sports camps and special events.

United Way campaign seeks volunteers

AHS participates in pancake Tuesday to raise money for Unitedway

A message from the University of Waterloo United Way campaign.

Do you…

  • Care about your community?
  • Want to engage with colleagues across campus?
  • Love new opportunities for personal and professional development?

If you said yes to any (or all) of these statements, we want you to volunteer for the university’s 2019 United Way campaign!

Here’s what volunteering with us means:

As a United Way Ambassador, your job is to support your department/unit during the campaign and encourage fundraising efforts and donations. You can run events in your department, team up with another department, or simply share information with your colleagues – it’s up to you! The full role description is available online, but don’t forget that your time commitment is easy to modify to what works best for you and your office.

Interested? Sign up to volunteer as an Ambassador by filling out our online form.

Monday's notes

Several temporary disruptions to spaces in the Student Life Centre will be taking place beginning today and running until Thursday, August 29. The bulk of the work involves laying the final section of flooring from Brubaker's to the doorways into the Great Hall and the entrance/exit near the SLC patio (or the former Campus Bubble). Much of the work is happening in stages over the next 10 days, so check the Daily Bulletin for construction updates.

  • Beginning today and running to Wednesday, August 28, the SLC patio door entrance/exit will be closed, and there will be a partial closure to the SLC dining space;
  • Beginning today and running to Friday, August 23, overnight work will be taking place in the SLC resulting in partial closures of the area for flooring replacement from the Great Hall to the SLC Marketplace.

Brubakers is open from August 19 to 23 and will be closed from August 26 to August 30. Directional signage will be posted beginning today.

The bird is the word: Staff and faculty are invited to bring their kids back to school shopping at the W Store and receive a free plush goose with each stationery purchase. The special promotion is valid until August 23 at the W Store | SCH and W Store Essentials | SLC and STC locations. Customers can get one plush goose per child 13 years of age and under with a minimum $10 purchase before tax. The promotion is not valid on course materials, tech accessories, or clothing items.

Upcoming office closure

AccessAbility Services, including the Exam Centre, will be closed on Wednesday, August 21 all day for staff training. The office will reopen on Thursday, August 22.
