BE A PART OF SOMETHING SPECIAL
The University of Waterloo’s United Way campaign has two ways to volunteer:
1 - CORE COMMITTEE
The Core Committee is the backbone of the United Way campaign at the University of Waterloo. Made up of a handful of dedicated volunteers, our Core Committee plans, communicates, and executes on the annual campaign. There are five key committees: Administration, Communications, Events, Stewardship, and Volunteers.
Lead by one staff and one faculty co-chair team, and with support from their Campaign Coordinator (co-op student), the Core Committee works with the United Way to ensure a successful campaign every year. The time commitment is higher with a Core Committee membership, as their duties are active throughout the year.
Becoming a Core Committee member is a great way to expand your skillset through leadership, planning, communication, and large-scale event opportunities. It also enhances your performance evaluation through participation in one of the University of Waterloo’s top philanthropy initiatives.
2 - AMBASSADOR
Ambassadors are the heart and soul of our campaign. These are the representatives who run events within their team units and encourage their teams to come together and donate for an incredible cause. They are giving, creative, energetic, and outgoing. There are usually between 50-100 Ambassadors who volunteer with us every campaign year.
Anyone within a department unit can become an ambassador – we love seeing more than one ambassador within a team too, because two heads (or more) are better than one. We also hope to see at least one ambassador per department unit. The time commitment is what you want it to be - it's all in the types of events you run and how you engage with your team.
Becoming an ambassador is a great way to build event experience, enhance recognition within your team, and goes great on a performance evaluation. You'll also get to participate in United Way-wide events designed to recognize our incredible Ambassador volunteers.
