New GSPA website launched
Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) has launched a new website that will serve as the primary online entry point for information, resources, policies, and procedures related to graduate studies and postdoctoral affairs. This work was informed by feedback received through the GSPA portfolio review, which identified a need for clearer pathways to information and resources for people who access the website, especially faculty and staff who support graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
The redesigned GSPA website will provide clearer pathways to information for faculty, staff and visitors. The redesigned GSPA website is intended to better support the University community. Audience-specific websites remain in place, including those for:
- Future graduate students
- Current graduate students
- Postdoctoral scholars

Dustin Garrick (Associate Professor and University Research Chair in Water and Development Policy, University of Waterloo)
- Dustin will share lessons for Waterloo from water allocation reforms in groundwater-dependent cities across Canada and globally, drawing from longstanding policy research on water risks and responses in thirsty cities, supported by community partners, the World Bank and philanthropic foundations.
Leigh McDermott (Director of City Utilities, Integrated Planning & Public Works, City of Waterloo and 2026 Douglas Wright Engineer-in-Residence, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Waterloo)
- Leigh will examine water infrastructure delivery by addressing timelines, costs, and planning realities, using global case studies to highlight the risks of delayed action and linking infrastructure decisions to ongoing research.
Ellie Joseph (Two Row on the Grand co-founder)
- Ellie will address Indigenous relationships with water and provide cultural and stewardship context to frame the discussion holistically.
David Rudolph (Professor, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Waterloo)
- David’s presentation will explore regional reliance on groundwater, highlight the critical role of community input, challenge misconceptions about Canada’s water abundance, and showcase global examples of sustainable long-term solutions.
Get outside and discover the biodiversity all around us during BioBlitz 2026!
Did you know that across all University of Waterloo campuses, over 2,700 species have been recorded on iNaturalist?
From September 21 to 25, the Sustainability Office is hosting the University of Waterloo’s fourth annual campus-wide BioBlitz, a community-led effort to identify all species living on campus. No prior experience is needed. Participants are invited to identify species on their own, or join a guided walk or workshop led by campus experts on topics such as moths, bats, birds and plants. Participants will help build a snapshot of campus biodiversity, learn new identification skills, and have a chance to win prizes. Let’s discover what’s living right here on campus, together!

New Quest class search now available: A new public version of the Schedule of Classes is now available in Quest, called Quest Class Search. Current students and employees can continue to sign in to Quest to view additional details, including instructor and room information. Quest Class Search will eventually replace the current Schedule of Classes, as the system that supports it is planned for retirement. In the meantime, both tools will remain available and continue to be updated, and we will share additional information and timelines ahead of the transition.
When and Where
The Campus Wellness Student Medical Clinic offers healthcare visits with Physicians and Nurse Practitioners to current undergraduate and graduate students. Services include: vaccinations, immunity testing, naturopathic services and more. Counselling Services offers appointments with counsellors in person as well as via phone and video. Students can book appointments for these services by calling Campus Wellness at 519-888-4096.
The privately-run Student Health Pharmacy (located in the lower level of the Student Life Centre) is now offering new COVID booster shots and flu shots. Covid booster shots are available by appointment only – please call ext. 33784 or 519-746-4500. The Student Health Pharmacy’s summer hours are Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Naloxone kits are still available – pick them up in the pharmacy at no charge.
The Waterloo Eye Institute optometry clinics in Waterloo and downtown Kitchener offer comprehensive eye exams and eyewear, including glasses and contact lenses, with the Waterloo location offering various specialized services including urgent eye care. Discounts apply for University of Waterloo students and employees. The Waterloo Clinic is at a nearby interim location, 419C Phillip St, during construction at the School of Optometry and Vision Science. The Kitchener Clinic remains at the Health Sciences Campus, 10B Victoria St. S. Book online or by phone at 519-888-4062.
