Eight incoming master's students at the University of Waterloo have each been awarded a Vector Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence, valued at $17,500, from the Vector Institute. Four students are from the Master of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (MDSAI) and Master of Mathematics (MMath) in Data Science programs.

"Congratulations to incoming MDSAI students Salomé Dionne-Laforest, Jesse Lu, Vincent Nguyen, and Hunter Plowman on winning the Vector Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence!" says Stephen Vavasis, Director, Data Science program.
MDSAI (Master of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence) is a four-term graduate degree combining coursework and an external co-op position and has been offered by the Faculty of Mathematics since 2019. The program attracted over 1,000 applicants this year, and the Vector scholarship, worth $17,500, is awarded to the very top applicants.
As of Winter 2021, 33 students have finished their degree. The Vector Institute, headquartered in Toronto, is funded by the governments of Canada and Ontario, and private industry to promote research in artificial intelligence.
