Join transgender therapist and educator, Washington Silk (they/them), as they talk about menstruation and trans folks! In this special Pride Month edition of our Menstrual Equity Lunch and Learn series we’ll learn more about the complex relationship between menstruation and trans bodies.

This one-hour mandatory Equitable Recruitment and Selection training supports faculty in helping them design equity-centered recruitment and selection practices while discussing accountability frameworks for equitable recruitment, selection, and retention. 

Tangible tips for tailoring facilitation to your specific audience, mindfully creating safer space and increasing participation from a diversity of those attending your meeting or offering, as well as on how to address common challenging behaviours will be provided via a hands-on, supportive workshop experience that encourages you to gain more confidence with the discomfort often associated with being responsible for spaces where unlearning is happening or needs to happen.

Join the office of Equity Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-racism for an afternoon of creativity, conversation, and community. This event is aimed at bringing together staff and faculty from marginalized communities to connect, relax, and build meaningful friendships. 

Join Pride at Work Canada and the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management for a special screening of Pride vs. Prejudice: The Delwin Vriend Story. This powerful documentary chronicles the journey of Delwin Vriend, a man who was dismissed from a Christian university in Edmonton for being gay.

His fight against this discrimination led to a landmark Supreme Court case, Vriend v Alberta, which played a crucial role in advancing 2SLGBTQI+ rights in Canada. This documentary was produced by the Edmonton Community Foundation and the Edmonton Queer History Project and premiered in Spring 2024.

Enjoy complimentary refreshments and mingle with fellow movie enthusiasts before the show. Following the screening, we will have a fireside chat between Special Guest Douglas R. Stollery and moderator Jade Pichette (Pride at Work Canada).

We are honoured to welcome Douglas R. Stollery, an esteemed construction lawyer, human rights advocate, President of the Stollery Charitable Foundation and former Chancellor of the University of Alberta. Stollery played a central role in the Vriend v Alberta case and has received many awards including the Order of Canada for his contributions to advancing 2SLGBTQI+ rights and other charitable initiatives.

The research on student course evaluations loudly exclaims that overreliance on one perspective in teaching assessment – the student perspective – has a negative impact on both the wellbeing and career trajectory of faculty members who belong to systemically oppressed populations. Join Dr. Kim Buchanan (Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-racism) and Dr. Sonya Buffone (Teaching Assessment Processes Office) to learn about the concrete steps Waterloo is taking to establish a more equitable, holistic model of teaching assessment.
