The research and technology transfer activities of the University of Waterloo Fire Research Group, in collaboration with the fire service, have attracted much publicity. Various aspects have been profiled in radio talk shows, articles in newspapers across Canada, photos in Macleans and live laboratory and field testing segments on TV including: hour long episodes of Forbidden Places, Firefight and Inferno on Discovery Channel, 'Into the Fire' for Nature of Things on CBC, segment on @discovery.ca and a half-hour special with CKCO-TV entitled ‘Get Out Alive’ which won the 1997 Fire Protection Award from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal Office.
