Taxation (Co-op) - Master of Taxation (MTax)

Hagey Hall expansion building

Hagey Hall Hub located on Waterloo's main campus

If you’re a graduate from a Canadian business program interested in pursuing a career in tax, or you’re a working professional like a chartered account or a certified financial planner, the Master of Taxation Co-op program is for you.

You’ll engage with and reflect on real, practical situations and problems rather than on detailed engagement with current professional philosophical literature. Completion of an eight-month applied research placement at a host organization such as a non-profit, hospital, business or government agency will provide you with practical experience.

With the skills you gain to think logically and abstractly about complex projects, you’ll be prepared for a successful career in academia, government, health care, business, charitable organizations, and beyond.

An innovative graduate program, it reaches across the learning spectrum connecting skills and knowledge from each course and work-related activities. You’ll attain broad-based competencies in tax subject areas that include policy, research, statutory interpretation, estate planning, business structuring, and risk management. These technical strengths are integrated with professional skills including communication, research and interpretation, professionalism, continuous learning, and synthesizing relationship and business issues, positioning you as a valued professional in the Canadian tax community.

Offered full-time and in-person, you’ll get hands-on real-world experience through two co-op terms with an established company.
