MA Student
Joy Tigchelaar is a MA in Planning student in the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo, under the supervision of Dr. Leia Minaker. She has completed a BA degree with an Honours Specialization in Urban Development at Western University in 2021 and was the Gold Medalist of her program. For her undergraduate thesis, Joy was under the supervision of Dr. Jason Gilliland, where she studied the impacts and lessons of the Covid-19 pandemic on core area food businesses in London, Ontario. Her thesis was part of a broader study known as "FRESHER." Joy's other research interests include urban and social resilience, food environments, public health and planning, and the social determinants of health
