Matthew is an MA student in the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo, under the supervision of Dr. Leia Minaker. He completed his BSc (Honours) degree in Urban Studies and Psychology at the University of Toronto in 2023. Matthew’s research interest pertains to the intersection between urban planning and mental health to develop inclusive and sustainable urban environments that positively impact residents’ well-being. With a focus on understanding how planning policies, urban design, and community engagement can influence mental health outcomes to inform evidence-based planning strategies.
Matthew is also currently a Project Coordinator for Urban Minds and has experience working with municipalities and civic organizations to create and design inclusive spaces for youths through participatory planning and community engagement.
In 2023 Matthew was awarded the SMART Training Bursary Scholarship awarded to graduate students demonstrating academic excellence and dedication in incorporating implementation science to make Canadian Cities healthier and more resilient.
