First Person Scholar
First Person Scholar (firstpersonscholar.com) is a middle-state, graduate student run publication operating from the Games Institute here on campus. We publish book reviews, essays, and commentaries on games, gameplay, and the games industry. Our team is looking for four copy editors to join the publication.
Launching in late 2012, we have been publishing submissions every Wednesday from a variety of games scholars, journalists, enthusiasts, and industry members. We are a small but recognized publication working to bring academic games research into the public eye.
While the time commitment for this job is minimal, it does require flexibility and frequent participation in FPS culture and communication channels. Previous editing experience is not required, but an interest in games and/or games culture is a must.
Primary task: Copy edit articles for grammar, typographical errors, etc.
Workload: 1-2 hrs/month (articles copy-edited per year: 10-15).
Notes: Copy editors provide a last review of an article prior to its publication, meaning only minor, NOT substantive, changes are required. Copy editors report to the respective section editor on each submission. If a copy editor wishes to become an assistant or associate editor in the future, they must contribute at least one article to FPS. Copy editing is a volunteer position at FPS, but we have only limited positions.
The application deadline has been extended! It is now due on or by Monday, October 2nd . You will hear back from us by Wednesday, September 28th.
