We met with our group for the Spring term to discuss Wi-Fi and Student Software on campus
What do you love about the Wi-Fi on campus?
-
Consistent
- Better than other local universities
- Wired ethernet in lecture halls is great
What could be better about Wi-Fi on campus?
-
There should be outdoor Wi-Fi where there is large amounts of outdoor seating, and in the PHY-DWE-RCH area
- DC Lecture Hall Wi-Fi is slow and unusable
- Other big lecture halls have issues with Wi-Fi
- There is no coverage in tunnels or bridges
Can you give us feedback on the current software page?
-
The layout is difficult to understand
- Missing things like GitHub education
- Page should have more images / icons / logos
- Follow accessibility standards
- QGIS
- There are no descriptions for software
- Alternatives Suggestions (IE, if you need Photoshop, try Gimp)
- List other things students get awesome discounts on : Amazon Prime, Apple Music, Spotify
What would you like to tell IST Leadership?
-
Students should be able to borrow AV equipment
- Please don't get rid of email forwarding
- Please clarify the status of @uwaterloo.ca email forwarding
- Chromebook Loaners
- Cable lending library (HDMI, ethernet, etc, charging cables, etc)
- Profs use IE but they experience lots of problems with it
- Computer literacy quiz to activate Learn or Watiam should be investigated
- Promote Office 365 more; Onedrive as a backup solution
As the attendance this term was lower than in Winter and Fall terms, we opted to run only three sessions this term. We will return to our once a month schedule in the Fall 2018 term.
