On July 1, 1957 the Waterloo College Associate Faculties was founded in two temporary buildings. In 2017, University of Waterloo celebrates 60 years of history, growth and excellence that grew those small beginnings into Canada’s most innovative university.
An integral part of that history, the Library has grown and evolved along with the University. The specialized knowledge, resources and services the Library provides to every corner of the University contribute directly to the success of its students, faculty and staff.
The Library has a history of innovative thinking, from being the first department on campus with a Telex, to being one of the first university libraries in Canada with a dedicated accessibility librarian.
Now, the Library is busy looking towards the next 60 years as we move forward with the Library Revitalization Project and continue recruiting for many new positions.
Throughout 2017, the Library will be reflecting on our past, present and future with events, celebrations and regular features on this blog.
We invite you share with us your memories of the past, your visions for the future, and any ideas you may have for honouring this historic occasion. We will share our favourite memories and visions on this website, and can support Library staff in realising their anniversary event.
