Alumnus

Colin BrownI am a MASc student in the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. My research is in the area of biomechanical and biomedical engineering, with a particular interest in sports applications. I graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and specialization in Biomedical Engineering, with distinction. In my undergrad, I had the opportunity to work in a research team exploring genetic engineering solutions to world issues, develop GHG reducing technology with ConocoPhillips Canada, and study the relationship between biomechanics and hockey skate performance through an undergraduate level thesis project.

Research

Masters

  • Multibody dynamics analysis on biomechanical systems
  • Adaptive control and parameter identification in sports applications

Undergrad

  • Member of a small team studying the relationship between biomechanics and hockey skate performance
  • Analyzed the effect of hockey skate blade holders on vibration transmissibility, performance, and subjective assessment of the skater
  • Utilized and developed skills in MATLAB for large data analysis
  • Gained proficiency in on-line biomechanics data collection using goniometers, accelerometers, and pedar
