The Network for Aging Research (NAR) at the University of Waterloo is dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary aging-focused research. Established in 2014, NAR provides a robust platform for researchers by offering funding, organizing events, and facilitating networking opportunities. Our mission is to foster collaboration and elevate the study of aging within the university community.

Purpose and Activities

NAR was created to support and promote collaborative aging research across the University of Waterloo. We provide catalyst grants to encourage innovative projects, organize events to bring researchers together, and offer networking opportunities to facilitate cross-faculty collaborations. Our activities are designed to nurture a vibrant research community focused on aging studies.

Impact and Leadership

Since its inception, NAR has funded numerous research projects, many of which involve new cross-faculty collaborations. Our efforts have significantly contributed to the elevation of aging studies at the university, providing valuable support to researchers from diverse academic backgrounds. Under the leadership of Dr. Plinio Morita, appointed in June 2023, following Dr. Steven Mock and Dr. Paul Stolee, NAR continues to thrive and expand its impact.

Funding and Resources

Supported by the University of Waterloo central administration and the Faculty of Health, NAR offers a wealth of resources for researchers. This includes information on research centers and groups, funding opportunities, and events. Our grant recipients have leveraged $498,000 in catalyst grant funding to secure $3,600,000 in external grants, trained over 80 Highly Qualified Personnel (HQPs), published 30 manuscripts, presented at numerous conferences, and attracted media attention.

Join us in our mission to advance aging research and make a meaningful impact on the study of aging at the University of Waterloo.
