Celebrating the 2019 Alumni Awards
Waterloo honours alumni who dream big, chart unconventional paths and inspire others.
Waterloo alumni make life better for us all.
The 2019 Alumni Awards honour proud graduates whose passion, creativity and courage are transforming the world. Join us as we celebrate remarkable alumni, including a leader in green building and sustainable development, an educator on medical cannabis, an expert in information security analysis and the first female deputy governor of the Bank of Canada.
“The University of Waterloo was an essential part of building Athos. The freedom, resources, and challenge to create something new for our fourth-year design project was the catalyst that enabled us to be ambitious and try to do something that nobody had done before,” said Jayalath. “Waterloo's emphasis on practical skills, combined with deep academic understanding of engineering was another factor that helped set us up for this journey into entrepreneurship.”

Working tirelessly to advance important causes, this year’s award recipients also run charities, advocate for wildlife and support Waterloo and its students. One alumnus’s story of social justice was even made into a musical.
