University of Waterloo's economics professor expects several new spending measures in the budget
By Media RelationsProfessor Jean-Paul Lam, from the Department of Economics at the University of Waterloo, is available to speak to the media about the federal budget. He can provide commentary in both English and French.
"Expect the budget to contain several new spending measures following the Liberals' deal with the NDP and increased defence spending. The deficit will remain high by historical standards in the coming years, and we should not expect a balanced budget anytime soon."
The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Canada's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, will table the budget on April 7, 2022.

Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
