“The Prime Minister’s defeat in the House of Commons vote on her Brexit plan has made a confusing situation even more confusing. May is safe as Prime Minister until year’s end after winning a Conservative Party confidence vote last month, but she now has to negotiate simultaneously with her own party, the Labour Party opposition, and the EU to move forward.
"The likeliest outcomes is the EU will give Britain an extension on Article 50 (the EU withdrawal mechanism) to allow May to convince more MPs to support a modified version of her present Brexit plan.
"Its possible, however, that Labour could push for a second referendum or even a general election. What all sides want to avoid is a “no-Deal” Brexit, so it is likely that May will play for more time and continue to hammer away at the hard-Brexiteers in the hope of securing a deal everyone can live with."
