Olaf Weber said:

"Costs of doing nothing will come up because climate change will have a negative impact on the whole economy because of environmental degradation, and societal impacts, such as migrations. Furthermore, in contrast to investments in climate change mitigation, costs of adaptation do not have a financial return on investment. They are just end-of-pipe solutions. The negative consequences of doing nothing were, for instance, the rejection of Keystone. Other countries do not like to import goods with high carbon footprints.”

The announcement comes in the lead-up to the United Nations climate negotiations in Paris beginning November 30th. Canada is likely to have a much more robust presence at this year’s summit than in the past.
