Greetings! My name is Carla Fehr and I hold the Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy in the Philosophy Department at the University of Waterloo.

I investigate the social nature of scientific and technological research. Simply put, I argue that diversity promotes excellence. Diversity drives innovation, bolsters knowledge creation, and strengthens the science and technology workforce. However, these benefits require workplace cultures that respect and support diverse practitioners. I explore how the values, practices, and structures that constitute workplace culture can help these individuals and institutions flourish.

My research has direct practical applications. It can help people navigate their workplaces and workplace relationships. It can also help organizations ranging from academic departments, to business enterprises, to non-profit organizations foster respectful and productive workplace cultures.
