Abstract: Over the last few years I’ve had the opportunity to give presentations to several high school groups relating to statistics. There are many benefits of academics doing this kind of outreach work: students (and their teachers!) enjoy hearing about the practical applications of what they are seeing in class, and are curious about the use of statistics in their future careers; and you get to share your knowledge and get students excited about statistics. In this presentation, I will share details about the topics I spoke about, including machine learning, finance, and data bias, as well as some advice if you find yourself with a similar opportunity.
