More information about paying residence and tuition fees can be found on the Payment Options page.

Visit Apply to Live at St. Jerome’s for more application details.

Room Allocations and Roommate Selection for first-year students

Residence preferences should be submitted as part of your Residence Community Interest Form.

Your residence offer from St. Jerome’s University will not include a specific room type and you may be allocated a single or double room.

Single room preference

While you can rank a single room as your preference, please be aware that there is still a high chance that you will receive a double room. Students who have Accessible Housing recommendations for a single room will be given preference to a single room assignment.

Roommate matching

If you are allocated a double room, you will be matched with a roommate based on the information you provide on the eRezLife forms you complete as part of the offer acceptance process.

If you have a friend who is also living in residence at St. Jerome’s with whom you wish to live, you will have an opportunity to indicate this on the eRezLife forms.

Room allocation

Your residence room allocation will be sent to you in August and will let you know if you have been assigned a single or a double room. The allocation will not specify which residence you will live in or who your roommate will be.

Room Allocation and Roommate Selection for Upper-Year Students

Residence preferences should be submitted as part of your Residence Community Interest Form. Your residence offer will include the type of room you have been allocated. If you are placed in a double room, you may specify your preferred roommate or choose to be matched through the St. Jerome’s roommate matching process.

Note: The St. Jerome's residence community is enriched by the upper-year students who chose to continue their learning and engage meaningfully. We expect that upper year students will stay connected and involved as supports, mentors, community builders and leaders in our residence space.

Accessibility and Special Needs

Accessible Housing

St. Jerome's partners with Waterloo's Accessible Housing team to provide supports for students in residence. Accessible housing accommodations are granted based on visible or invisible disabilities/medical conditions.

For questions about the accommodation process at St. Jerome's, please email sjuresid@uwaterloo.ca.

Dietary Accommodations

Dietary accommodations

Most diets can be accommodated as part of the mandatory residence meal plan. This may limit the amount of choice. Please connect with our dining staff to provide feedback or make suggestions.

Special diets:

  • Nut Allergies: No nut products are used in meals, but the cafeteria is not nut-free.
  • Gluten-Free/Celiac: Gluten-free options are labeled, and accommodations include a stocked fridge and separate meal preparation when needed. Complete gluten-free safety cannot be guaranteed.
  • Vegan/Vegetarian: Options are labeled.
  • Halal: Options are labeled.

Additional notes:

The buttery is not allergen-free.

If you require a special diet or have dietary restrictions, please contact our Residence Life Team at sjuresid@uwaterloo.ca.

Tax Returns

Residence fees cannot be claimed as rent for income tax purposes because universities are exempt from the Income Tax Act and do not pay municipal property taxes.

St. Jerome's does not issue a tax receipt for residence fees or meal plan payments.
