Waterloo is developing a new approach to facilitate credentialling of new non-credit and credit courses. The Alternative Credits Approval Committee (ACAC) was created to standardize terminology for non-credit credentials and functions as a temporary approval mechanism for them (e.g., WatSPEED offerings). In the longer term, a new, comprehensive credentials framework for credit courses will address systemic barriers for credentialling of interdisciplinary and innovative credit courses. Moving forward: Terms of reference for a Credentials Framework Working Group were approved by senior leadership in spring 2022. The working group will consult with the campus community in fall 2022 and make recommendations in winter 2023.
