Student communications plays a critical role in contributing to the overall student experience. In spring 2022 the associate provost, students portfolio created a dedicated team, UWaterlooLife, to streamline student communication across units. The goal of this approach is to develop a common agenda for solving a decentralized approach to communicating and engaging with our student community, using a structured form of collaboration. The approach aligns goals and leverages scale through existing expertise, platforms, and partnerships. This new student-centric strategy will be used across units to build belonging and pride, create a stronger connection with students, ensure awareness of supports and services, and improve the student experience.

Moving forward: The new communication strategy will begin in fall 2022 with priority activities focused on developing a sustainable collaboration structure among campus partners, launching an updated digital hub for students (e.g., “Current Students” website), and launching coordinated, student-facing campaigns across units based on common themes throughout the year (e.g., exam preparation).
