Supporting transition to post-secondary for Black studentsĀ

Addresses objectives:
C4B Improve the representation, participation, and engagement of equity-deserving groups

started

Black and Indigenous youth have historically accessed post-secondary education in lower proportions than other groups. In 2021-2022, the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism (EDI-R) Office began creating the Transitional Year Program to engage these historically under-served youth in post-secondary opportunities. The goal of the program is to offer Black and Indigenous youth in Waterloo Region the opportunity to earn two half-credit courses at the University to increase the likelihood that they will pursue post-secondary studies. The program will also engage the provincial government partners and regional boards of education. A program proposal has been developed and submitted to the provost for approval.
