DT G2 Interdisciplinary courses

Implementing novel, interdisciplinary courses delivered by PhD students

Addresses objectives:
T2C Foster an interdisciplinary environment for graduate students
T2E Stimulate flexible, interdisciplinary graduate programs

In progress indicator

Graduate students are attracted to Waterloo to solve some of the world’s most challenging problems. These problems are not defined by disciplines, and neither are our scholars. Emerging scholars are working with the TII on the “wicked problem” course development initiative, focusing on solving similar issues from different, interdisciplinary perspectives. The fundamental focus of this program is to create interdisciplinary research, teaching, and learning opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students. In 2021-2022 a senior doctoral student from each Faculty was selected to collaborate and develop an interdisciplinary, team-taught course on addressing climate change.

Moving forward: Doctoral students will continue to work together to develop the course in fall 2022, with a launch anticipated in 2023. Throughout 2022-2023, GSPA will work with TII and faculties to identify new opportunities to advance the program.
