Informing the Wellness Collaborative

Addresses objectives:
C1A Mobilize the wellness commitments from the Okanagan Charter and Healthy Workplace statement

in progress

Waterloo’s Wellness Collaborative is dedicated to improving health and wellness at the University and is a key approach for addressing the communities goal. Working through an advisory committee and supported by Campus Wellness, the collaborative’s work is informed by, and progress monitored through, a variety of data sources. The Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey (CCWS) was launched in winter 2022 as a health and well-being monitoring tool. More than four thousand undergraduate and graduate students completed the survey. Results will be released in late fall 2022. Additionally, an internal student experience survey, developed in 2022, is an important new tool to support this work. Built on the Waterloo Student Experience and Engagement (WatSEE) Framework, and with input from a range of student-focused academic support units and leaders, including student associations, the survey was piloted in spring 2022, revised based on feedback, and will be launched campus-wide in fall 2022.

In 2021-2022 the Wellness Collaborative worked on several priority areas including a Thrive campus-wide health promotion campaign, food security, a healthy learning environment, and mental health literacy. Each of these initiatives are part of the overall strategy to create supportive environments for mental health and resilience, physical health, social inclusion, belonging and spiritual well-being at Waterloo.

Moving forward: The new internal student experience survey and results from the CCWS will be integral to identifying areas of work for the Wellness Collaborative, as well as monitoring progress.
