An award, valued at $2,500, will be provided annually to a Black or Indigenous undergraduate student enrolled in Year One or Two in the School of Planning. Selection will be based on academic achievement (minimum 70% cumulative average) combined with an essay wherein students describe the positive impact they have had on their community through extracurricular and/or volunteer involvement. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated involvement in the School of Planning and/or the planning profession. Interested students should submit an online application by March 15. This fund is made possible by a donation from MHBC Planning Limited to support Black and Indigenous students pursue a career in planning.
- Black or Indigenous undergraduate students

- For the purpose of this award, Black students may include African, Caribbean, Black Canadian, Afro-Latine, African American, or other African descent
- For the purpose of this award, an Indigenous person is one who is a citizen or member of a First Nations community (Status/Non-Status), Métis, and/or Inuit. To protect the integrity of Indigenous candidates, you are required to complete the Indigenous Declaration section in Quest where you will be asked to upload documentation to verify your Indigenous identity. This supporting documentation will be reviewed by staff in the Office of Indigenous Relations at the University of Waterloo. Only verified students will be considered for these awards.
